We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a doubt. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had been similar to you. We have a no smoking policy in our home, enforced on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the depression set in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would disrupt me now, and state that the majority of women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
