All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been just like you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to make with the day instead of what my neighbours would be up to. Then in the 3rd week, a despair began to creep in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes throughout the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who walk past your house. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and state that most women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you do not understand the half of everything. I believe it's time I provided you a total photo of our street and the people who survive on it. It will come in useful later on. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her hubby and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City. I never ever talked to him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
