From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continually when the depression embeded in, I started to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and state that most ladies at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her hubby and is in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners.
