We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, imposed on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This implies that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly constantly when the depression embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past your house. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that many ladies at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't know the half of all of it. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her other half and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time.
