We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. We have a no smoking policy in our home, enforced on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. After smoking almost continually when the anxiety embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that many females in the house do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you do not know the half of it all. I think it's time I gave you a complete picture of our street and the people who live on it. It will can be found in useful later on. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She recently separated from her other half and remains in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I talked to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never ever talked to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
