We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, enforced on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking nearly continually when the anxiety set in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would disrupt me now, and state that most women at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
