After smoking practically continually when the anxiety embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage children. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her other half and is in the procedure of moving.
