We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd thought. After smoking cigarettes nearly continuously when the depression set in, I began to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of individuals would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of women at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
