We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd thought. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
