All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had been just like you. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, implemented on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly constantly when the depression set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that many ladies at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other females. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. She recently separated from her hubby and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever spoke to him, although what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
