All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. We have a no smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking nearly constantly when the anxiety set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past your house. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of it all. I believe it's time I offered you a total image of our street and the people who survive on it. It will come in useful later. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
