We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that most ladies at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her other half and remains in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I talked to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never ever spoke with him, despite the fact that what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
