We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continually when the depression set in, I started to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many individuals would disrupt me now, and say that many females at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
