We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that many females at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She recently separated from her partner and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never spoke to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
