With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that most women at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of all of it. It's a extremely small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
