All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Then in the third week, a malaise started to sneak in. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continuously when the depression set in, I started to notice the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies in the house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't know the half of all of it. I think it's time I gave you a total picture of our street and individuals who survive on it. It will be available in useful later. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this website is the detached house where Steve and Mandy deal with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her partner and is in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. I never spoke to him, although what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
