We have a no smoking policy in our house, enforced on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking almost continuously when the depression set in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and state that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
