We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been similar to you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to finish with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I developed a issue with my knee. A semi-serious issue. Then in the third week, a despair began to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our home, implemented on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking nearly continually when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and state that the majority of women at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
