We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a reservation. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been much like you. We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking almost continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I started to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that most women at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other females. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She recently separated from her other half and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I never ever spoke to him, despite the fact that what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
