After cigarette smoking practically continuously when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and say that many ladies at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a extremely little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. Then last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.
