We have a no smoking policy in our home, implemented on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking almost constantly when the depression set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and say that many females at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her spouse and remains in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time.
