We have a no smoking policy in our house, enforced on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost constantly when the depression set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and state that most women at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of all of it. I think it's time I provided you a complete image of our street and the people who survive on it. It will can be found in beneficial in the future. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
