I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She recently separated from her husband and is in the procedure of moving.
