We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been just like you. I signed up with the ranks of the long-term ill, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The first few weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little jobs that pile up done. In the 3rd week, a malaise started to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes throughout the street. I began to choose up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past your home. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that most females in the house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you do not know the half of it all. I think it's time I provided you a complete picture of our street and the people who survive on it. It will be available in useful in the future. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
