We all accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, imposed on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes practically continuously when the depression set in, I started to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that the majority of women in the house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you do not understand the half of all of it. I think it's time I offered you a complete photo of our street and the people who live on it. It will come in useful in the future. It's a extremely small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
