All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a reservation. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had been much like you. I signed up with the ranks of the long-term sick, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The first few weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little jobs that pile up done. In the third week, a malaise started to creep in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking almost constantly when the depression set in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her husband and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City. I never talked to him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
