We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking nearly continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I started to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of ladies at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy deal with their two teenage boys. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her other half and is in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners.
