We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been similar to you. We have a no smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes practically continuously when the depression set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and state that many women at house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
