With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage children. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
