We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the depression set in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that most ladies at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
