With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that many females in the house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have two replies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy deal with their two teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
