We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past your home. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't know the half of all of it. I believe it's time I gave you a total picture of our street and the people who live on it. It will come in useful in the future. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this website is the removed home where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
