We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking almost continuously when the depression set in, I started to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their everyday regimens.

I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat.
