We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After cigarette smoking almost continually when the anxiety embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and state that a lot of females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
