We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. Triggering to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to make with the day instead of what my neighbours would depend on. I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious issue. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might walk, run, and climb, however it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I signed up with the ranks of the long-term sick, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The first few weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little jobs that accumulate done. In the 3rd week, a malaise started to creep in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, imposed on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking practically constantly when the depression set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and state that most women at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't know the half of everything. I believe it's time I provided you a complete image of our street and the people who live on it. It will come in helpful later on. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her husband and is in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I spoke to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never talked to him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
