We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that most ladies at house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this website is the separated home where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. She recently separated from her hubby and is in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I talked to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never ever spoke to him, although what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
