We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, enforced on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This implies that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that most females at house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Then last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy deal with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.
