We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking nearly continually when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would disrupt me now, and state that many females at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
