We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a reservation. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking practically continually when the depression embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of women at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other females. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
