We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second idea. After smoking almost continually when the depression embeded in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and state that a lot of ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you do not understand the half of it all. I think it's time I gave you a total image of our street and the people who survive on it. It will be available in useful in the future. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
