With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that many females in your home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have two replies. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
