We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and state that many women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her hubby and remains in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I talked to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever talked to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
