From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking almost constantly when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of women at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other females. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
