We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd idea. After smoking almost continuously when the depression set in, I started to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that most ladies in your home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have 2 replies. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
