We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, enforced on the bulk (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly constantly when the anxiety set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that many ladies at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other females. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her other half and remains in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever spoke with him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
