We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, implemented on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continually when the depression set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many individuals would disrupt me now, and state that a lot of ladies at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
