We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking practically continuously when the depression embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that many ladies at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
