We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After cigarette smoking practically constantly when the anxiety set in, I began to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would disrupt me now, and state that a lot of ladies at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
