With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past your house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat.
